GRAND PRIX OF THE SEA

Grand Prix of the Sea, The Powerboat World Championship is offshore racingings fastest growing series and regarded as the world's premium marine motorsport, with teams from around the globe racing at jaw-dropping speeds exceeding 200 km/h (125mph) in supercharged mono-hull powerboats.

The 2009 UIM Powerboat World Championship had arguably the most extensive television coverage in the history of performance boat racing, reaching across four continents. Fans from around the globe can follow the action watching the TV footage, now broadcast worldwide and available in 500 million homes.

In 2010, the Series' eighth season, teams will compete for the Powerboat World Championship title at Grand Prix of the Sea (GPS) events across Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

The Powerboat World Championship consists of two race classes: Evolution and SuperSport, with powerboats from each class competing in two separate rounds - Sprint and Endurance - over the course of a race weekend. All GPS Powerboats boats are twin-engine monohulls, fuelled either by powerful petrol or diesel engines. Boats in the Evolution and SuperSport class are required to have a minimum crew of two - a pilot and a throttleperson - with some teams even adding an extra-navigator to do some of the work.
To keep competition close, all boats must comply with power-to-weight ratio regulations. Evolution class boats are modified production and/or prototype crafts with a fully closed canopy and safety cell. SuperSport class boats are production boats, usually safe and affordable for consumer use. Team Scandinavian Offshore Challenge will 2010 compete in the Evolution class with the all new Vector V40R.
